Jonathan Aitken’s career in the City of London began in 1972-73 when he was appointed Executive Assistant to Mr J D Slater, Chairman of Slater Walker Securities.

He was Managing Director of Slater Walker (Middle East) Limited 1973-75.

In 1980 he co-founded a City of London Merchant Bank, Aitken Hume International. He was its Chairman from 1981-90 and Deputy Chairman 1990-1992.

Other directorships included TVam plc 1981-88; National Securities and Research Corporation (USA Fund Manager) 1984-92. He resigned all directorships on becoming a member of Her Majesty’s Government in 1992.

He is sole director and owner of Aitken Consultancy and Research Services Limited (ACRS Limited)
